If you know of additional contests relevant for biomedical text mining, please be so kind and contact me: martink@cnb.uam.es. This way you help to improve completeness of this list of text mining resources for biology and biomedicine. Such community-wide contests are extremely important to assess the state or the art of systems developed so far, to point out successful approaches and to produce Gold Standard data sets to train and test future strategies. So far two main research communities have paid attention and participated at previous contests, the computational linguistics community and the bioinformatics community. There are plans of carring out new contests, such as BioCreative 2 and new Genomics TREC tracks.
