Our first taste of league hockey didn't start off too well.
When we got to Derby we found we only had 6 skaters because Alec had overslept and Damian, Rob and Mark decided to take a 90 minute tour of the Derby ring road. On top of that we were playing Nottingham Rollersnakes, possibly the best team in the country, in only our second game of the season, using a puck for the first time and having to play with an offside rule for the first time. And they had the Great Britain goalie!
Luckily Alec arrived just in time, and though we did concede a goal in the first ten seconds Milo was superb and everyone else played really well. The Rollersnakes didn't score again until the 3rd period. We tired in the final period and they scored 4 more, but it was the best result against Nottingham by any team in the league.
We lost our next game 4-3 to Nottingham Jackals, a faster team (Rob, Mark and Damian had arrived by then) with Ben in goal. On another day we might have won.
The final game was against Sheffield. We started OK, but we had an awful 2nd period where Milo let in two little tricklers between his legs.
Things did not look good. But Rob hit a longe range one in the third period, Damian followed with a shot from an impossible angle and with two minutes to go Rory charged onto a pass and blasted it into the top corner. 3-2 and our first points.
