Description: | Thermoacidophilic archaeon that thrives at 59 degrees Celsius and
pH 2 which was isolated from self-heating coal refuse piles and
solfatara fields. Does not possess a cell wall but is delimited only
by a plasma membrane.
Inhabits a hot and highly acidic environment sometimes as low as pH 0.5. Adapted to scavenging nutrients from the decomposition of organims killed by the acidity. |
Properties: | Number of membranes : 1 Presence of a flagella : Yes Number of inteins : 1 |
