Swiss-Shop is a service that allows you to automatically obtain (by email) new sequence entries relevant to your field(s) of interest.

DOC Help is available.

New Protein Sequences, which are added to the SWISS-PROT database on a weekly basis, can be scanned following a user-defined query. The searches are performed on the current non-cumulative weekly additions only. This will allow researchers to be aware of new protein sequences, related to their interests, before the actual database release.

If you are interested in performing the analyses offered by Swiss-Shop on the complete SWISS-PROT/TrEMBL database rather than just on the weekly updates of SWISS-PROT, please click here.

All Results will be returned to the client via E-mail.

This utility creates and sends Swiss-Shop requests, but you can also:

Please complete this form and submit your request.

These fields MUST be completed:

 E-mail address :

Title of Request:

Fill in one of the following sections A) Sequence/Pattern based search or B) Keyword based search

A) Sequence/Pattern based search
If you enter a SWISS-PROT ID or AC number or your own protein sequence, Swiss-Shop will perform, at each weekly update of SWISS-PROT, a BLAST alignment of your sequence against the sequences that have been added in SWISS-PROT since the last weekly update. You will receive an email message with the list of new sequences thus found to be similar to your specified protein (with a probability below a user-specified threshold that the similarity found through BLAST is a random one).
If you enter a PROSITE ID or AC or your own pattern in PROSITE format, Swiss-Shop will scan this pattern, at each weekly update of SWISS-PROT, against the sequences that have been added in SWISS-PROT since the last weekly update. You will receive the list of new SWISS-PROT entries matching your pattern.
B) Keyword based search
Alternatively, you can base your search on one or more keywords. Swiss-Shop will look for these keywords on the corresponding lines of all SWISS-PROT entries added in the database since the last weekly release.

  • A) Sequence or Pattern based search:
  • SWISS-PROT ID or AC number: Example
    OR
PROSITE ID or AC number : Examples and list of all PROSITE patterns
    OR
Pattern in PROSITE format : Example

OR Raw Protein Sequence (numbers and spaces will be ignored):

    Blast probability threshold: * 10 -

Swiss-Shop will perform a BLAST alignment for your sequence, and you will receive all proteins, for which the probability that the alignment is real and not random, is below this threshold. (This probability is the value that appears in the 'P(N)' column of the BLAST output.)

  • B) Keyword based search:
  • Taxonomy (Word search on the OS,OG and OC lines of SWISS-PROT):

    OR OR

    AND

Author (Word search on the RA lines of SWISS-PROT):

    OR OR

    AND

Keyword (Word search on the DE, CC, and KW lines of SWISS-PROT):

OR OR OR OR OR OR OR OR

    AND

Cross-reference to a database (in the DR lines of SWISS-PROT):

    Feature (FT lines of SWISS-PROT):

     BINDING Text:
     DOMAIN Text:
     METAL Text:
     MOD_RES Text:
     REPEAT Text:

    Report format options:

Please specify in what format (degree of detail) you wish to receive information about new SWISS-PROT entries relevant to your query:
    Complete SWISS-PROT entries
    List of SWISS-PROT accession numbers
Short report containing information from SWISS-PROT ID, AC, DE, OS lines
List of SWISS-PROT accession numbers with hypertext links to the corresponding entries on the ExPASy WWW server

    Send an email report

only when there are new SWISS-PROT entries matching your query
every time Swiss-Shop is run, even if there are no new SWISS-PROT entries matching your query

    Expiration date of your request:

    //

    Password (optional): (case insensitive)
The input of a password allows you to edit your request later. This can be useful if you want to avoid retyping all your data when changing a parameter of your search.
