Database Description

GELBANK is a publicly available database of two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) gel images of proteomes from organisms with known genome information (available at http://gelbank.anl.gov). It includes NCBIís completed microbial and human proteomes with a search engine that allows the quick retrieval of sequences based on description, molecular weight (MW), isoelectric point (pI), and sequence information of the protein. For each proteome, a browsable theoretical 2D gel pattern is presented. GELBANK allows the upload of 2D gel-patterns and their annotation for registered users. The website currently presents 2DE gel-patterns for Methanococcus jannaschii, Escherichia coli, and Deinococcus radiodurans. By using a web-based interface, we have developed a method for the presentation of 2DE data that is interactive and integrated with proteome database.
