Database Description

The European Small Subunit Ribosomal RNA Database is a compilation of RNA sequences that are available from public sequence databases. All complete and nearly complete small subunit ribosomal RNA sequences are included and stored in aligned format. Furthermore the secondary structure, as derived by comparative sequence analysis, is included in this alignment. Other relevant information about the sequences, such as accession numbers, taxonomy and literature references is also available. Sequences can be downloaded in six different alignment formats, three of which allow the secondary structure information to be included. The database can be accessed at http://rrna.uia.ac.be/ssu/.

Recent Developments

The number of SSU rRNA structures in the database has increased to 597 Archaea, 12467 Bacteria, 6561 Eucarya, 1089 mitochondria, and 137 plastids.
